Sustainability
Whether it’s kindness to people, to animals or to the planet it has become increasingly important to me that I live my life with regard for its impact, so when it comes to running a business I do my best to minimise my environmental impact.
Happily clay is intrinsically recyclable until it is fired, and even after firing mishaps can be used as crocks in containers by gardeners (if you’re local and need any just let me know!). My pottery supplier, Hot Clay, is about 1.5 miles away and en route to my parents - it couldn’t really be more convenient. The power for our home, my studio, wheel and kiln is currently supplied by Octopus and thus from renewable resources, though we hope to install solar panels in the future.
As for packaging, it’s important to me that if you buy my ceramics it feels special, I make it with great care and attention in the hope that you will love it, so I want it to arrive not only safely in one piece, but such that it feels like a gift. I have carefully considered the packaging I use, opting for a combination of environmentally friendly primary wrapping and, for now, reusing the metres and metres of bubble wrap that I have saved over the years as secondary protection. I will also continue to reuse suitable cardboard boxes in which various items arrive here. I encourage you to reuse any of these elements if you are able to do so.
